Barbara J. McNeil is the Ridley Watts Professor of Health Care Policy and Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. In 1988 she founded the Department of Health Care Policy at the school and has since been its head. She is a member of several key scientific institutions, including the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and the National Academy of Science.
She has devoted much of her research to the study of new medical technologies and was one of the first physicians to apply the techniques of decision analysis and cost effectiveness analysis to the study of new imaging technologies. Her current research focuses on quality of care, evaluating the effects of state level payment reform and of health insurance plan redesign.
In the research programme Professor McNeil will be particularly involved in the study of clinical registries, collaborating with Dr Levay. Given her central location in vital scientific networks and her unique combination of insights into decision analysis, medical practice, and healthcare policy, she will also be well placed to give valuable input to other parts of the programme as they evolve.
You will find a list of Barbara's publications on her homepage at Harvard Medical School.
