Sten Anttila

Sten Anttila (1958), PhD Sociology (1994), is Project Director at the Swedish Council on Health Technology Assessment (SBU). He currently holds a full-time permanent post at SBU. He has a background as a university teacher in research methodology for social science (sociology, social work, nursing, etc.). His research topics have included research methodology, including applications of game theory in environmental research and applications of systems theory to problems in political science; and methodology in social science, including evidence-based practice, systematic reviews and statistical applications. Sten has links with the Campbell Collaboration and to the GRADE working group.

In this research programme Dr Anttila will focus on the GRADE system. The aim will be to identify and specify methodological problems in the synthesizing and rating of evidence. Strategies for handling the problems will be suggested, and understandings of alternative GRADE-ratings by researchers in healthcare and medicine will be investigated.
